Leaving Disability at the Dockside

These are our unsung heroes of the challenge, following from Port to Port we will have three motorhomes providing our home comforts, accommodation and good food for Geoff, Sam and James.

Allan

Allan

Allan is a key member of our shore team, and will remain in Kent for the duration of the event because he is our voice of reason.

During challenges we are very aware how the heart can sometimes overrule the head. Having Allan making the final decision on whether we go out to sea or not eliminates the heart winning!

Allan is a foundering  member of Wetwheels South East. Born in Dover Castle (the last person to be, we believe!) Allan has been involved in Sailing and Powerboating for over 50 years.

He is also one of the Wetwheels South East Skippers.

Elaine

unknown person

Married to Geoff, Elaine has been swept along with the challenge, with her good humour and enduring love for Geoff, she is part of the shore crew providing the home comforts on the road!

Kris

unknown person

Kris is Geoff’s main carer and his main role during the challenge is ensuring Geoff’s health and comfort are supported.

Kris will also be one of our motorhome drivers.

Elspeth

Elspeth on boat by light ship

Married to James, Elspeth unsurprisingly also spent her honeymoon on the Caledonian Canal!

Her passion for water came from many years as part of an independent lifeboat crew, Mountain Rescue and also Lowland Rescue team.

Elspeth is mostly likely be the person you speak to when you call or email Wetwheels South East. Equally at home behind the desk in the office as crewing the boat.

During the challenge she will be driving one of the Motorhomes, as well as keeping everyone up to date with developments on our various Social Media channels.

Paul

Gentleman with a beard smiling.

Paul joined the RNLI 7 years ago as one of their Mechanics travelling between stations providing his expertise to those without a permanent station mechanic.

He has since settled in at the Dover Station, during this time he joined the Wetwheels South East crew as a volunteer along side his partner Michelle. He qualified as a commercial skipper at the end of the 2023 season.

During the challenge, Paul will be responsible for the boat when the team arrive at each port. Ensuring she is serviced and fuelled ready for her next departure. He will also be driving one of our motorhomes between ports.

Wetwheels Foundation Support

unknown person

Along the challenge, the core Shore team will be joined by various members of the Wetwheels Foundation team. Whether in the form of additional drivers, social media moderators or the Wetwheels operators joining the team at their home ports.
