Leaving Disability at the Dockside

In 2010, Geoff had a dream that one day there would be a network of fully accessible, barrier-free boats which would provide the opportunity for all disabled people to access our beautiful UK coastal waters.

A year later, his first Wetwheels boat was on the water and by 2012, such was the demand from the disabled community that Geoff set about putting in place a development plan to one day achieve that dream.

The Finishing The Dream Challenge aims to help raise £1.2 million for the Wetwheels Foundation in completing this network of boats around the UK.

To Finish the Dream, and give the majority of disabled people and their families access to the water, the Wetwheels Foundation has identified three new locations and the need for a permanent outreach vessel which can travel to other ports for service.

The Dream locations identified are :-

  • Wetwheels Cymru
  • Wetwheels Northern Ireland
  • Wetwheels East Anglia

The fourth boat will head to the South East to replace the current vessel (the one being used for this challenge) that will become the dedicated outreach vessel throughout the UK.

Today, there are seven Wetwheels boats around the UK with the eighth launching in Spring 2024. There is an amazing network of Wetwheels operators and volunteers who have taken over 50,000 disabled people and their carers and families since Wetwheels Foundation first started in 2011.

There is a need for a further four Wetwheels boats in the UK, bringing our final number to 12 boats, to ensure most disabled people in the UK are within a one-hour drive of a Wetwheels experience.

Finishing the dream will be Geoff’s final disability adventure and will allow him to be the first severely disabled person to captain a powerboat on such a journey.

The project will be used to raise awareness and money to finish Geoff’s dream.

The goal is to raise £1.2 million to purchase the final four Wetwheels vessels at which time his dream will become a reality.
