Leaving Disability at the Dockside

Day three of our journey began with a later start, strategically planned to catch a better weather window and ensure we reached Portland at the optimal time for the famous Portland Race.

The shore crew also had a later start, waiting until the boat had refuelled and left the Solent area before setting off. With approximately 150 miles to cover, it promised to be a long day for both the boat and the camper vans.

After refuelling, the boat set out, passing Cowes before heading towards The Needles, where the crew enjoyed their onboard lunch. Once everyone was refuelled and ready, we continued towards the Swanage area, making good speed despite the challenging seas.

We checked in with the St Alban Head National Coastwatch Institution before reaching the east of Portland Bill, where we saw numerous seagulls feeding on schools of mackerel.

We waited for the tide to be right before navigating through Portland Race, and then made a two-hour straight passage to Torquay.

There, we were warmly greeted by Wetwheels Torbay, the newest Wetwheels boat in the fleet, at Thatcher Rock. They accompanied Geoff and the team into the marina.

Once alongside, the boat was given an evening wash down and put to bed. Due to the later start, it was a later finish, so the team headed straight for camp to relax after a long day at sea and on shore.
