Leaving Disability at the Dockside

Today marked an eventful journey for both our boat and shore crews, filled with a mix of serene sea passages and challenging road travels.

Our day began at Scarborough Harbour, where we timed our departure perfectly to align with the wind and tide. Slipping out of the harbour with just enough water to meet our passage plan, we embarked on our voyage toward Lowestoft.

Greeting us with smooth, rolling seas, providing ideal conditions for our journey across the bay. With the wind and tide in our favour, we made significant progress. The sea was kind, offering a gentle push that carried us forward with ease.

Along the way, we passed by wind farms and fishing boats, encountering a few grumpy seals miffed to be awoken as they bobbed in the beautiful sea. Their disgruntled looks added a touch of humour to our trip.

As we approached the Norfolk Coast, we found ourselves following several wind farm vessels through a narrow passage between the wind farms and Great Yarmouth. This part of the journey required careful navigation, but the stunning coastal views made it worthwhile. Finally, we arrived at Lowestoft, where we were warmly welcomed by the Royal Norfolk and Suffolk Yacht Club.

They kindly provided us with camping facilities and berthing for the night, offering a much-needed rest after our long day at sea.

While the boat crew enjoyed smooth sailing, the shore crew faced a different set of challenges. Their journey, was long in miles, and also hindered by the limitations of A roads, which had increased numbers of lorries and tractors than previous days, slowing their progress significantly.

The departure from Scarborough was delayed due to an unforeseen issue – one of the campers had to be towed out of its pitch. This incident provided some amusement for onlookers but added to the day’s delays.

Once on the road, the shore crew experienced slow going for approximately six hours. Despite the challenges, they eventually reached the Yacht Club, where the boat crew, who had arrived earlier, greeted them.

We extend a massive thank you to North Star, who sponsored our arrival into Lowestoft. Their support has been invaluable.

Despite the delays and challenges faced by the shore crew, we all made it to Lowestoft safely and in good spirits. The combination of beautiful sea conditions and the warm welcome at the Yacht Club made this leg of our journey a memorable one.
