Our journey began under the breathtaking clear skies of Port Edgar, setting the stage for another fantastic day as we headed South. The morning sun cast a golden hue over the iconic Forth Bridges as we departed, creating a picture-perfect start to our voyage. The calm waters of the Firth of Forth glistened, promising smooth sailing ahead.
As we navigated from Queensferry into the expansive Firth of Forth, the natural beauty of Scotland’s coastline unfolded before us. The tranquil conditions allowed us to spot playful porpoises and curious seals, adding a touch of marine magic to our journey. The sea was alive with life, and we felt a deep connection to the ocean and its inhabitants.
Our course took us around North Berwick, where the sea began to show a bit more character. The waves picked up slightly, but fortune was on our side as the wind and tide aligned perfectly behind us. This serendipitous alignment propelled us smoothly down the Northeast coast, making our departure from Scotland and reentry into England seamless and swift.
As we cruised past Seahouses, we were treated to a spectacular display of seabirds. Puffins, with their distinctive beaks and charming demeanour, dotted the skies and waters, accompanied by an array of other seabirds. It was a birdwatcher’s paradise, and we couldn’t help but marvel at the vibrant wildlife that thrived in this coastal haven.
Timing is everything in boating, and our entry into the River Tyne was a testament to that. We approached just as the tide turned, ensuring a smooth and timely arrival at our destination.
The Royal Quays Marina greeted us with open arms, and we were welcomed warmly by the team from Wetwheels Yorkshire.
At the marina, we had the pleasure of meeting Jon, Clo, and Gareth. These inspiring individuals shared their experiences with Wetwheels Yorkshire, shedding light on the profound impact the organisation has had on their lives. Their stories were a powerful reminder of the importance of accessibility and inclusivity in maritime activities.
This journey was more than just a passage from one place to another; it was a celebration of nature, community, and the boundless joy of barrier-free boating.
As we reflected on our adventure so far since leaving London three weeks ago, we felt grateful for the clear skies, favourable winds, and the warm hearts that welcomed us at our journey’s end.
