As Wetwheels left Milford Haven through the lock, excitement buzzed among us, especially as we looked forward to passing Skomer Island and spotting some puffins. Unfortunately, a sea fog descended, enveloping us in a thick mist. Undeterred, we carefully navigated through the passage between the island and the mainland, ensuring a safe journey.
To minimize the impact of the waves on the vessel and Geoff, we charted a course into Cardigan Bay. This adjustment resulted in a slightly longer route, but it offered smoother sailing conditions. Our path took us through Bardsey Sound and around the northern tip of the Lleyn Peninsula, where we dipped into Caernarfon Bay to find more shelter. Pressing onward, we rounded both South Stack and North Stack before safely docking at Holyhead Marina.
Meanwhile, our shore crew took the scenic coastal road from Milford Haven. They, too, encountered the sea mist, but it soon lifted, revealing breathtaking views as they journeyed through the countryside. The sight of Red Kites soaring gracefully on the air currents over the mountains added a magical touch to their travel.
As they descended back to sea level, they crossed The Britannia Bridge onto Anglesey, arriving just in time to greet us at Holyhead Marina. Their adventure was a perfect complement to our maritime journey, showcasing the beauty and diversity of the Welsh landscape.
